Wedding Reception Dreams Come True

Like many little girls, I grew up dreaming of my wedding day. However, I was never able to imagine the sort of dress I would wear, or what flowers I would hold.

Growing up, I attended many weddings as a guest, and once I began SoulStation with Daniel, I performed for over 500 weddings by the time our wedding came along in 2024.

That gave me a lot of time to think and tailor my wedding vision’s details.

Nevertheless, there was one vision that always stayed true from when I was a little girl, to when my wedding day finally arrived:

I wanted to be surrounded by the people I love most on the dance floor, enjoying themselves to the fullest as the band performed some of the most fun and epic songs that exist.

And my dream came true!

How did I create the perfect, dream wedding reception?

1. What sort of music and energy do I want?

I put a lot of thought into who I hired for entertainment because the type of music was a top priority for me. I wanted the reception to feel happy and full of life, with a blend of contemporary songs and the classic hits I grew up loving; artists like Earth, Wind & Fire, The Four Seasons, and even the Spice Girls. Picking the entertainment vendor who made me feel the most comfortable while understanding what I had in mind helped set the exact atmosphere I envisioned.

2. Deciding Between a DJ and a Live Band

I weighed the pros and cons of hiring a DJ versus a live band, knowing that both options had their strengths. In the end, I chose a live band because I wanted the music to feel alive in the room. There’s something special about the unique energy each musician brings to a song, compared to hearing a recording I’ve listened to countless times. Live music created a one-of-a-kind experience I knew would make the night unforgettable.

3. Creating an Energetic, Engaging Experience

Another reason I chose a live band was the way they interact with the crowd. I loved watching the musicians feed off the guests’ energy and seeing my guests respond right back. It felt like everyone was part of the performance. That back-and-forth excitement made the reception feel alive and added a joyful sense of connection throughout the night.

The band even got off the dance floor at one point, performing right next to me and our guests, they invited me on stage to do their choreography with them, and even invited me to sing while being accompanied by the band!

4. Communicating Clearly With Every Vendor

Before the big day, I worked closely with all my vendors, including the reception hall, catering, florist, décor rental, and entertainment, to make my expectations clear. I made sure everyone understood the vision so nothing was left up in the air. By finalizing every detail by Wednesday of wedding week, I gave each vendor the information they needed to deliver exactly what I wanted.

5. Trusting the Process on the Wedding Day

Since everything was planned and confirmed in advance, I was able to fully relax once Saturday arrived. I trusted that each vendor knew their role and understood my vision. Letting go of the logistics allowed me to be present, enjoy the celebration, and take in every moment of my perfect wedding reception.

Thinking back on the day, I have no regrets with the decisions I made leading to my wedding. For the day of, I truly enjoyed every moment and took it all in.

Ultimately, that is the key to a perfect wedding: mindset. Choosing to go with the flow, let your love flow through, dance all night, give the tightest hugs, smiling even if you feel like your cheeks are getting a workout…
